When changing tie rods on a ford escort should I change both inner and outer?

I have a 1995 ford escort 1.9 liter recently I was in for an oil change and it was recommended that I change my tie rods. Are they talking about the outer tie rods or should I change both inner and outer and how much time and/or tools would I need to them myself. When changing tie rods on a ford escort should I change both inner and outer?
take it to somebody who does alignments and have them check it, not a chain store like midas or jiffy lube. if you do it yourself chances are the steering wheel will be way crooked and the tires will wear fast because of the adjustment. most likely just the outers will need to be done, i dont change inners i replace the rack%26amp;pinion assy. and thats expensive. but the alignment has to be done right away after the tie rod ends are replaced. also the lower ball joints on those cars go bad often, have them checked as well. When changing tie rods on a ford escort should I change both inner and outer?
changing the outers is easy and if your measure carefully and count the threads as you remove the old one you will be close. inners are tougher and require special tool
