How To Tell when Outer Tie Rod Goes Bad?

Well, I know when a inner tie rod goes bad theirs play in the wheel left and right, well the outer tie rods how do they go bad?

I took mine out my 94 Mustang 5.0 and the inner had play but the outer is always the same.

How do i know when to change outer tie rods?

And should i put performance ones on since my car is lowered? How To Tell when Outer Tie Rod Goes Bad?
test the same for both but if your replacing the inner do the outer one as well they aren't that expensive iff you lower it just normal ones will be ok and while your at it check and replace the ball joints the lower ones wear faster than the upper but why not replace them for peace of mindHow To Tell when Outer Tie Rod Goes Bad?
jack car up hold wheel left to right shake it

can feel it move alot can look under and behind and see it move

not hard to replace at home but have to have a alignment to set it right

can also check ball joint and bushing by shaking wheel top to bottom

type into search box

how to replace tie rod

how to check tie rodHow To Tell when Outer Tie Rod Goes Bad?
The same thing happens...you have play in the wheel. As mentioned above, with the front jacked up, turn each wheel from left to right. If the tie rod is loose/has play, the wheel will move with little only a little push from you.How To Tell when Outer Tie Rod Goes Bad?
The way to test outer tie rods will be the same. Check for left-right movement of the wheel when the vehicle is in the air. Since you are lowering the car you will want extended ball joints to account for the change in suspension angles due to the new/lowered nature of the suspension. This will reduce unwanted wear and play in the stretching of a factory ball-joint on a lowered suspension.

Good luck, hope this helps.
