How do I remove this steering connecting rod?

The vehicle I'm working on is a 1978 Toyota pickup SR5. I need to drop the steering rod connector so I can drop the oil pan and change the gasket, but I can't remove it with the rod in the way.

I removed the cotter pins and nuts but I can't make the tie rod, etc. budge at all. Here's a pic to show what I'm dealing with:

What do I need to do to get it apart? Be specific please.

Thanks! How do I remove this steering connecting rod?
without lookinf id say you needed a forn.its a fork used to apply pressure between the ball joint and its mount.see the boss is tapered, and the shaft on the ball joing is matched.they wedge together, and you need a wedge to pull em apart.a well placed hammer blow can and will pop em loose.dont try it.just go to harbour freight and get a forn, they are cheap.use it between the 2 joints, and bang it with a bfh(big f;;king hammer)How do I remove this steering connecting rod?
They have a tool that's about 12%26quot; long, it's about a 1/2 %26quot; round bar with a V shape made on one end of it ,you put the V between the two rods then hit it with a hammer and thay come apart. Any auto parts store will have it, i call it a fork tool. How do I remove this steering connecting rod?
Have you tried using a separator for removing tie-rods and ball-joints. It's made like a fork. You may need a hammer to hit the separator and it should come loose. How do I remove this steering connecting rod?
use a ball joint and or a tie rod end separator......usually called a fork.......can even rent them in loan-a-tool programs at most parts stores...

shops use a press-type(which is better) but the fork will work......b carefull so u don't damage the rubber on the parts....good luck
