How do I change the passenger side inner tie rod on a 1993 Saturn SL2?

Are there any special tools I might need, and what procedure do I follow? I've been trying to change this, along with the outer tie rod, but I can't get either one of them off. There is a large boot covering the far end of the inner tie rod, I can slide it back some, but I can't seem to get it off. Any suggestions would be great. How do I change the passenger side inner tie rod on a 1993 Saturn SL2?
It would be a far to long answer to explain it step by step, but you can do it yourself. Get yourself a repair manual [Chilton or Haynes] most libraries carry them. A tool you will need is called a pickle fork to seperate the joint. Good luckHow do I change the passenger side inner tie rod on a 1993 Saturn SL2?
you need a pickle fork a large hammer and the proper size wrench. i have never seen a boot covering the tie rod end. the process is a follows. the tie rods are 1st one is left hand thread the other is right hand 2nd both have a jam nut to keep them locked to alenghth 3rd must count rotations as you remove them and install the same count. step one loosen the jam nuts (remember right and left hand threads) step 2 remove if eqiuped dust cover boot over the stud attached to the swivel remove the cotter pin and the large nut attaching the swivel end (hymes joint) to the steering arm on spindle. next place pickle fork tool betwwen the swivel and the steering arm base(it will be tight!) start hammering the pickle fork end inward driving the wedge of the fork between the two. if all goes well the two will seperatebut some are stubborn. now you grasp the arm the tie rod end is threaded onto(some have a flat spot formed into the arm to attach a wrenchfor holding. and start twisting off the tie rod end (COUNT THOSE THREADS) reassemble with new parts and a new cotterpin! got get it re-aligned. Im going to start a web sight soon for guys and ladies needing this type help at geocities hope to see you thereHow do I change the passenger side inner tie rod on a 1993 Saturn SL2?
you can change the outer tie rod with no problem, but the inner tie rod, you need a special tool to unscrew it and to screw the new 1 back in. i had to have 1 replaced on my car once. theres a large nut way back up inside, thats why you need that special tool, that tool looks somewhat like a flashlight. How do I change the passenger side inner tie rod on a 1993 Saturn SL2?
Do yourself a favor and save yourself a lot of headaches and take it to a mechanic there is a special tool that you need to take it off and put the new one in
