First and foremost, you will need an inner tie rod tool. Some vehicles can be done without it, but you'll save yourself a world of heartache if you have one. Most auto parts stores have it.

1) Turn steering wheel so the tie rod you want to replace is fully extended.

2) Chock rear wheels. (Sounds dumb, but very important)

3) Raise vehicle and remove wheel.

4) Remove nut on outer tier rod end.

5) Loosen jam nut between the outer tie rod end and inner tie rod.

6) Hit the steering knuckle with a hammer until the outer tie rod breaks free from it, or you can use a puller, we usually hit the knuckle in the shop though. (Don't be afraid to hit it hard)

7) Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner, count how many turns it took to remove it, and remember this number. Write it down.

8) Remove bellows boot. (The accordian rubber cover)

9) Use inner tie rod tool, or very large pliers, or whatever you need to, to unscrew the inner tie rod from the rack and pinion. This will not be easy to start, but once it starts, it should come off freely.

10) Install in reverse of removal.

Put some threadlock on the new inner tie rod to keep it from backing off in the future.

When you install the outer tie rod, put it on the same number of turns it took to remove it, this won't be perfect, but it should get you to get it aligned.

YOU MUST GET AN ALIGNMENT NO EXCEPTIONS
